Traditional Shibori, Dyed by hand
Liz + Luna Design was created in 2016 when my hobby of dyeing garments with indigo in the shibori method reached a point that was bordering on obsessive. I'd taken a shibori workshop the year prior and quickly dyed every possible item in my house, which led to purchasing more items to dye for myself. When my house and closet hit shibori overload, I started giving my pieces as gifts. I began teaching friends and local workshops, and eventually what started as a curiosity grew to something much bigger.
The creation of Liz + Luna Design was a slow evolution, and in truth, started much earlier in my life. Growing up with a textile artist mother, we had multiple looms, spinning wheels, and various dye vats throughout the house. In my early adulthood I spent two years living in rural Japan, and learned about many traditional crafts, including shibori. While it's hard to point the exact moment in time my interest in indigo and shibori crystallized, without a doubt, these experiences had a profound impact.
When I'm not creating shibori for my own line, I enjoy teaching indigo workshops and sharing this special craft with others.
